Background of I AM Michelle Obama.com......

Throughout the 2008 Presidential Campaign, I found myself having numerous in-depth conversations with my sisterfriends about the sense of pride we felt as we witnessed history take place. Not only were we witnessing the possibility of having the first African-American President of the United States, but we were also witnessing the possibility of the first African-American First Lady. Our conversations ranged from the fashions she wore to her ability to conduct powerful rallies attended by thousands in support of her husband. I heard many stories of how good it felt to see a woman in such a powerful position who was not only intelligent but beautiful, a woman who carried herself with great pride and dignity, a woman who was articulate and well-spoken, a woman who was strong yet gentle in so many ways, a woman who supported her husband and loved her children, a woman who was mild mannered but exuded a familiar strength of many of our grandmothers, mothers and aunts, a woman who made the world listen without being demeaned, disrespected or showing her body parts, a woman who wasn’t ashamed of her curves, a woman who although grew up on the South Side of Chicago went to some of our country’s most prestigious colleges and universities, a woman who gave to her community without expecting anything in return, a woman who sacrificed her personal life and that of her family for the good of her country, a woman who exemplified the American Dream, a woman who not only talked the talk but walked the walk, a woman that ALL women could relate to and love…Michelle Obama.

The more we talked the more I wanted to hear what other women were thinking as they watched Michelle Obama on the campaign trail. From these shared thoughts…I launched the I AM Michelle Obama.com Self-Empowerment Movement for Women and Girls with the hopes that women from all walks of life will be inspired to share their stories and dreams of the Michelle Obama within!

Hi Linecia! Yeah we sure do need to catch up, it has been so busy for me my oldest daughter has pneumonia and with being so busy with work I've had to put a lot of my 'passion' on hold. But I would love to get together, hopefully things will be back to normal soon for me. How's everything on your end. Thanks so much for thinking of me today!
Hugs,
Kara

A Beautiful Flower....

I am a huge music fan and the current state of the music industry continues to disappoint my spirit. Not only does it lack the musical melodies and soulful voices of decades past, but the lack of lyrical substance and emotional connection leaves me hopeless.

Recently, I witnessed India Arie's performance of her song "Beautiful Flower" on the BET Honors Award Show in tribute

What will you give during this SEASON OF GIVING?

Give and it shall be given unto you: good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over... [Luke 6:38]

During these hard economic times, we all can say that we have less than what we may have had a year or two ago. From unemployment to the foreclosure crisis, Americans are spending less and saving more. With that being said, many… Continue

IS CHIVALRY DEAD or DID WE KILL IT?!!

Today I was reading an article on CNN.com entitled, “Why real men DO buy women flowers”. The context of the article was to enlighten men and women on the somewhat extinct act of a man letting a woman know how he feels about her through small gestures of kindness . The writer in the article reflects on h… Continue

Eliminating the COMFORT ZONE…when was the last time you stepped outside of your comfort zone?
